We all dream of having flawless, glowing skin. Some are capable of it, while others continually struggle to maintain beautiful skin. Clogged pores, pimples, breakouts: is there a way to eliminate these problems? The answer is yes, using an exfoliant could be the right solution for you!
What is exfoliation?
The skin is constantly regenerating, and new skin cells push older cells to the surface. Some will fall off naturally, but others build up on the skin. Exfoliation is used to remove these dead cells and restore your skin's radiance!
Why exfoliate your skin?
Using a good quality exfoliant is an excellent solution, summer and winter, to promote the elimination of dead skin. An exfoliant, especially a natural exfoliant , brings several benefits to those who use it:
1. Remove dead skin from the face and body
The skin, the body's largest organ, constantly regenerates itself by creating new cells (in the dermis). As these cells form, they push dead cells outward (the epidermis). Some will fall off on their own, while others cling to the skin, blocking pores and potentially causing pimples and other skin problems.
2. Optimize the results of your moisturizers
Regular exfoliation also helps to properly absorb the moisturizers you use daily, allowing the active ingredients in your beauty products to penetrate the skin for better results and radiant skin. Your skin will be soft, better oxygenated, and therefore appear healthier!
3. A natural cycle that slows down with age
Skin has its own cell renewal cycle, which slows down with age, causing dead skin cells to accumulate. Skin texture thickens and the complexion becomes duller, highlighting imperfections like wrinkles and age spots. Since exfoliation promotes better skin regeneration, a good skincare routine can make all the difference in skin's radiance and overall appearance.
Pravi's tips when buying an exfoliant
Caution: Sensitive skin!
A gentle exfoliant is recommended, especially for people with sensitive, rosacea-prone, or eczema-prone skin. To avoid damaging sensitive skin, it's important to exfoliate with a gentle massage and small circles, without applying more pressure than necessary, to avoid irritation or dryness. We want to remove dead skin cells, not the new skin underneath!
Always check the ingredients of the exfoliant!
You know us, we'll never recommend a treatment without warning you about the ingredients they contain that are harmful to you and the environment. Avoid exfoliants that contain microbeads, as they're made of plastic and cause a lot of pollution, as well as highly chemical exfoliants.
Instead, choose a product that contains a gentle, natural exfoliating agent. The rule of the 12 main toxic ingredients still applies here! To avoid the hassle, try exfoliating with our new face and body products, you won't be disappointed!
How to use an exfoliant?
As we now know, the purpose of exfoliating is to remove the cells (dead skin) that accumulate on the surface of our epidermis. The goal is to have youthful and radiant-looking skin, so it's very important to exfoliate properly to avoid damaging it.
Here are the steps to follow when exfoliating with Pravi products. There are two types of exfoliants: one for sensitive facial skin and one for the body. For both facial and body exfoliants, it's important not to leave them on your skin for too long!
Exfoliate the body
The body and face are very different, and it's important to use the right products. Natural body scrubs are usually very simple to use! Here are the steps to follow:
- Lightly wet the skin so that it is damp;
- Massage the body scrub into your body using circular motions. Pay special attention to rougher areas like elbows, knees, and feet;
- After massaging the exfoliant briefly, rinse well with cold water (cold water closes the skin pores);
- Dry gently with a towel;
We recommend applying moisturizer afterwards for the best possible results!
Exfoliate the face
Facial scrubs are gentler and more gentle than body scrubs to protect more fragile skin. We strongly recommend avoiding body scrubs in your facial skincare routine . Here are the steps to follow:
- Take a small amount of exfoliant on your fingertips;
- Apply a generous layer to your face;
- Let sit for 30 seconds to one minute on facial skin;
- Massage lightly into the skin;
- Rinse with lukewarm water;
Again, moisturizer is exfoliant's best friend! Feel free to exfoliate and then use your cream of choice.
How often should you use an exfoliating product?
Exfoliating your skin is great for preventing dead skin cell buildup and preventing issues like clogged pores, oil buildup, and aging. However, overdoing it can be detrimental to your skin's health!
Overusing exfoliation or scrubbing can have the opposite effect, irritating and drying out the skin! We've seen the negative impacts of overusing exfoliants (with all the best intentions) in many people. Pravi recommends exfoliating weekly for excellent skin condition!
When to exfoliate the skin?
You should favor the evening considering that the skin is more active at night and regenerates while you rest! Use your exfoliant after cleansing your face and before applying a mask or moisturizer.
